Match Report: VCF Mestalla earn valuable draw away at Villarreal B (1-1)

Valencia CF Mestalla played their fourth preseason friendly in a reverse friendly match against Villarreal B, this time at the Ciutat Esportiva de Miralcamp with a 1-1 result. The match was played in heavy rain showers throughout the opening 45 minutes.

The match began with a quickfire goal from Villarreal B. Aléx Millán who pounced on a VCF Mestalla defensive mistake fought his way into the box to make it 1-0 seven minutes into the first half.

VCF Mestalla tried to get back into the match and they gradually grew into the game controlling possession charging down the right wing where Hugo and Pablo González where constantly picking each other out and Nacho Muñoz who brought menace with promising forays down the right wing.   

VCF Mestalla enjoyed a series of consecutive corner kicks with nothing to show for it. Charly kept out a Villarreal B spot-kick and moments later, Villarreal B were down to ten men as Soni was dismissed for an off-the-ball incident as the first half came to a close.     

Óscar Fernández fielded a completely different eleven in the second half which tried to capitalise on the numerical advantage. The control of possession opened the floodgates.

The first clear-cut chance fell to Jesús Vázquez who whipped in a cross from the left but it came back off the post. Parity was restored at the second time of asking as Fran Navarro won a penalty and stepped up to convert it.

VCF Mestalla searched for the winning goal and came mighty close to getting it though Fran Pérez whose shot fizzed just wide of the post and then through Pablo Jiménez who got on the end of a teasing ball into the box following another Jesús Vázquez surging run.

The scoreline remained unchanged and VCF Mestalla earned a valuable draw against regional opposition Villarreal B.
